The area’s oldest, largest, and most visited art museum, the San Diego Museum of Art boasts an extensive permanent collection. This includes art by Spanish and Italian masters, 19th- and 20th-century American paintings and sculptures, and South Asian paintings. What’s more, the museum regularly hosts major exhibitions from around the globe. All year long, there is also an in-depth schedule of cultural and educational programs designed for adults and children. For those looking to do some research, there is an onsite library where an extensive collection of art history publications can be accessed. The San Diego Museum of Art is located in Balboa Park, which is where you’ll find everything from additional museums and the San Diego Zoo to the Old Globe Theatre and Alcazar Garden.
