San Diego is not home to just one post-season college football game, but two! This holiday season, be sure to check out the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
The 8th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl will be played on December 20th, 2012 at 5:00pm PST at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, home-base of the San Diego Chargers. The match up will be between this year’s second-place team from the Mountain West Conference, the San Diego State Aztecs and the Brigham Young University Cougars of the Western Athletic Conference. The San Diego State Aztecs played in the 2010 Poinsettia Bowl where they claimed victory over the Navy Midshipmen and broke records by having the largest crowd in the history of the bowl game. Brigham Young University, or BYU, is no stranger to bowl games with having a history of playing in eleven Holiday Bowls. Although their last bowl game was played in 1993, their track record is great and will be a force to be reckoned with on the football field come December 20th. No matter which college you’re rooting for, be sure to come out and support college football while enjoying the beautiful back drop of San Diego.
The 35th Annual Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl is another exciting college football bowl game also held at the Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, San Diego. This game is a match-up between the most talented players in the Big 12 and Pac 12 conferences. This bowl is nicknamed “America’s Most Exciting Bowl Game” and will continue its legacy this year when the Baylor Bears (Big 12) face up against the UCLA Bruin’s (Pac 12) on Thursday, December 27th at 6:45pm PST. Last year the Texas Longhorns took a 21-10 victory over the California State Golden Bears in front of over 56,000 fans. This year is extra special because this will the first time either football team, Baylor and UCLA, has participated in the Annual Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN at scheduled times.
