San Diego Tide Pools
Discover a wide array of sea creatures at spectacular San Diego tide pools that are located at Point Loma inside Cabrillo National Park. Enjoy everything from sea anemones and sea cucumbers to starfish, crabs, and sea urchins. It’s important to remember that these ecosystems are incredibly fragile. Plus, a lot of the animals are extremely sensitive and should not be touched, only looked at. Park rangers can be seen patrolling the tide pool areas on a regular basis so be sure to respect the area! Since you’re visiting an ocean tidal space, there’s a very good chance that you’ll get wet. Make sure to dress appropriately and be careful walking as the rocks can be slippery.

An ideal time to visit these San Diego tide pools is during winter. That’s when low tides, which are optimum for viewing sea life, take place during daylight hours. If you come during summer months, the low tides don’t often happen until the middle of the night. Another bonus of visiting in wintertime is that there will usually be a park ranger or volunteer on hand to not only answer any questions you might have but they can also point out tide pool life forms. There are a couple of parking options at the Point Loma tide pools. You can park for free outside the parking gate or you can pay a fee when you park at the visitor's center.
