Summer may be winding down, but it’s definitely not over yet. San Diego’s Festival of Sail is an annual celebration that takes place during Labor Day weekend, when everyone wants to savor the warm weather and waterside fun. This festival takes place at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, which has been preserving one of the nation’s largest collection of historic sea vessels since 1948. This San Diego Bay attraction becomes a nautical theme park between August 29th and September 1st, with events and activities that offer entertainment for all ages.
For four days, Tall Ships sail into the Bay, with cannon fire salutes and battles, Naval re-enactors, and a hands-on look at historic ship from the inside. There will be plenty of fun to keep the kids entertained at the large kids’ zone, including a petting zoo, craft activities, face painting, and photo ops with Captain Sunny and Pirates. The spirited celebration also appeals to adults with hundreds of art and craft vendors, diverse dining options, on-stage entertainment and a beer garden. You can enjoy a cold brew on a gorgeous day, explore the giant vessels all along the Maritime Museum’s dock, and even secure your spot on the 30-minute Festival of Sail bay cruise.
Don’t miss the largest Tall Ship festival on the West Coast. The Tall Ship Parade on Thursday, August 28th kicks off four days of smooth sailing and family fun. Make reservations at our San Diego hotel so you can relax and recharge before each day’s seafaring fun.
