The 2014 Over the Line Tourney
Two teams of three, two foul lines, a bat, a ball, and the beach: put together, and you’ve got one of San Diego’s and Southern California’s oldest and most unique activities, Over the Line. OTL is a beach sport similar to baseball: instead of running bases, teams try and hit fair and uncatchable balls to score runs for their team. There are no gloves or mitts, and only wooden softball bats are used. The team with the most hits and runs wins.

Over the Line spans all different age brackets, and both men and women play. It’s a social, fun, yet competitive and challenging game that combines all the best elements of beach-going, baseball, and softball. The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club hosts the Over the Line Tourney each year on Fiesta Island to ensure and preserve the game for others to enjoy. Teams hit the beach to soak up the sun, hit in some runs, drink a few cold beers, and cheer on their players and teams. The first weekend of the tourney begins July 12th, followed by the next weekend, the 19th. The tourney is free; play starts at 7:30AM and continues until dusk. Assemble your team and hit the beach! See you there!
