San Diego Brazilian Mardi Gras Ball (March 1)
Located at Fuse Nightclub on 379 4th Ave, this annual event brings the rhythm of Brazil to downtown San Diego. Watch feather-adorned dancers put on a samba show, while others perform the Brazilian martial-arts dance, capoeira. Enjoy inspired musical performances and an amateur Samba contest, which will send the winners on a round-trip vacation to Brazil. (Ticket price: $25-$99)
Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party (March 4)
Hillcrest provides its own take on Fat Tuesday with a fun street party characterized by the area's unique color and atmosphere. Located on University Avenue and 10th Street, this fun-filled evening will feature live entertainment, costumes, food, an exclusive VIP area, and of course, lots and lots of beads. Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp (March 4)
Fat Tuesday will bring floats, singing, street performers, beads, and more than 40,000 party-goers to 16 blocks of downtown San Diego. Dubbed Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp, this annual event is the biggest Mardi Gras party in all the West Coast. Among other things, the evening of indulgence will feature live music, sequined dancers atop several stages and a grand parade down Fifth Avenue. General admission tickets cost between $30 and $40; however, revelers can upgrade to VIP tickets for only $30 more and enjoy priority admission, beverages and food.
