Immerse yourself in the animal kingdom this weekend at the Insect & Ladybug Festival, a two-day celebration of bugs that creep and crawl. San Diego Botanic Garden hosts this unique event from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24. Kids and adults alike will enjoy an up close and personal foray into the world of bugs. Practice insect collecting, and try out hands-on insect arts and crafts. Feeling brave? Try out the cooked mealworm larva and see what it tastes like. Talk to entomologists and other bug experts at more than 20 educational booths, and meet the famous Madagascar hissing cockroaches. You’ll also find refreshments from Taco Man, San Diego Lemon Life, and Rita’s of Carlsbad.
The Insect & Ladybug Festival is free to attend for children 12 and under. Adult admission is $14, and for seniors, students, and military personnel it is $10.
